THANK GOD MESSI’S INJURY ISN’T THAT SERIOUS,HE’S O.K

A sense of relief
swept across Barcelona
late on Wednesday as it
appeared that a knee
injury suffered by soccer probably not as serious as
feared at first.
Messi was taken off the
field on a stretcher at the
end of a dull 0-0 draw at
home to Benfica in the
Champions League, with
teammates and fans
worried about the extent of
the injury.
A sense of relief
swept across Barcelona
late on Wednesday as it
appeared that a knee
injury suffered by soccer
super star messi.
Messi started Barca’s final
Champions game on the
subs’ bench, despite being
just one goal away from
equaling Gerd Mueller’s
1972 record of 85 goals in
a calendar year.
The Argentine finally came
onto the Camp Nou field
with 32 minutes left – to a
massive ovation – but five
minutes later he went down
after taking a heavy blow
to the left knee from
Benfica goalkeeper Artur,
while trying to dribble
around him.
The crowd was silent with
worry as Messi was taken
off the field in front of his
concerned teammates. His
departure left the Catalans
with 10 players, and the
game finished 0-0.
The club’s medical team
issued a comforting report
that Messi seemed to have
only suffered “a blow to the
side of the left knee.”
However, he was taken to
the Hospital de Barcelona to
undergo further tests.
Barca finished atop Group G
with 13 points, three more
than Celtic, which beat
Spartak Moscow, 2-1, in
the other group match.
Benfica finished third with
eight points. Spartak is at
the bottom with three.
Barca’s sporting director
Andoni Zubizarreta, looking
concerned, said: “It is not
pleasant to see him (Messi)
leaving the field on a
stretcher. We’ll have to
wait to see what the
doctors say . . . Let’s hope
it’s nothing serious.”
Zubizarreta added: “It was
a difficult game to play. We
had already qualified and
Benfica had a lot to play
for. It was a cold night, with
a lot of wind.”
Meanwhile, Barca coach Tito
Vilanova said: “I hope this
injury is not serious . . . I
decided to bring him (Messi)
on for the last half hour
because he was keen to go
out there.”
Vilanova added that Messi
was “not obsessed at all”
with equaling or beating
Messi’s record.
Club captain Carles Puyol
said: “I hope that Messi’s
injury is really nothing.”
Barca’s next game is on
Sunday, away to a lively
Betis team that is fourth in
La Liga.
Barca is six points clear at
the top having made a
record-breaking start, with
Messi the league’s top
scorer with an astonishing
total of 21 goals in 14
games.
